Young Prince Philip: His Turbulent Early Life

By Philip Eade

‘The narrative is as suspenseful as any thriller. Truly, an excellent read’ Lynn Barber, Sunday Times

Married for almost seventy years to the most famous woman in the world, Prince Philip is the longest-serving royal consort in British history. Yet his origins have remained curiously shrouded in obscurity.

In the first book to focus exclusively on his life before the coronation, acclaimed biographer Philip Eade uncovers the extraordinary story of the prince’s turbulent upbringing in Greece, France & Nazi Germany, during which his mother spent five years in a secure psychiatric clinic.

His father left him to be brought up by his Mountbatten relations in England just when he needed him most.

Alongside the considerable charm & intelligence, the prince was also prone to volcanic outbursts & to putting his foot in it. Detractors perceived in his behaviour emotional shortcomings, a legacy of his traumatic childhood, which would have profound consequences for his family & the future of the monarchy.

The book was published to coincide with the prince’s ninetieth birthday & containing new material from interviews, archives & film footage, this revelatory biography is the most complete & compelling account yet of his storm-tossed early life.

Behind The Palace Doors

By by Michael Farquhar

Spanning 500 years of British history, a revealing look at the secret lives of some great (& not-so-great) Britons, courtesy of one of the world's most engaging royal historians.

Beleaguered by scandal, betrayed by faithless spouses, bedeviled by ambitious children, the kings & queens of Great Britain have been many things, but they have never been dull. Some sacrificed everything for love, while others met a cruel fate at the edge of an axman's blade.

From the truth behind the supposed madness of King George to Queen Victoria's surprisingly daring taste in sculpture, Behind the Palace Doors ventures beyond the rumours to tell the unvarnished history of Britain's monarchs, highlighting the unique mix of tragedy, comedy, romance, heroism, & incompetence that has made the British throne a seat of such unparalleled fascination.

The King's Grave: The Search for Richard III

By Philippa Langley & Michael Jones

The official inside story of the life, death & remarkable discovery of history's most controversial monarch.

On 22 August 1485 Richard III was killed at Bosworth Field, the last king of England to die in battle. His victorious opponent, Henry Tudor (the future Henry VII), went on to found one of our most famous ruling dynasties. Richard's body was displayed in undignified fashion for two days in nearby Leicester & then hurriedly buried in the church of the Greyfriars. Fifty years later, at the time of the dissolution of the monasteries, the king's grave was lost - its contents believed to be emptied into the river Soar & Richard III's reputation buried under a mound of Tudor propaganda.

ts culmination was Shakespeare's compelling portrayal of a deformed & murderous villain, written over a hundred years after Richard's death.

Now - in an incredible find - Richard III's remains have been uncovered beneath a car park in Leicester.

The King's Grave traces this remarkable journey. In alternate chapters, Philippa Langley, whose years of research & belief that she would find Richard in this exact spot inspired the project, reveals the inside story of the search for the king's grave, & historian Michael Jones tells of Richard's fifteenth-century life & death. The result is a compelling portrayal of one of our greatest archaeological discoveries, allowing a complete re-evaluation of our most controversial monarch - one that discards the distortions of later Tudor histories & puts the man firmly back into the context of his times.
